Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schwab

The Chair of Practical Theology II is responsible for teacher training in religious education and didactics at the Faculty. Our teaching addresses the theory of religious education, including themes such as development of concepts for RE, legal foundations, issues of religious socialization and the professional role of religion teachers. Key didactic and methodological skills in reference to religious education are also taught. Within the scope of teacher training, particular contact is maintained to educational science and other subject didactics. As part of the basic educational science course, we offer our own lectures covering the entire scope of theology for teacher training students in other subjects. In pastoral studies, our teaching topics include preparation for religious education, working with confirmation candidates, church youth work and adult education.

We offer regular introductions to TCI group work (TCI = theme-centered interaction).

Our research examines issues in youth research and in the advancement of a theory of subject didactics for religious education, focusing particularly on the religious socialization of children and adolescents, church youth work, spiritual counseling for children and adolescents, and cross-disciplinary work in religious education. In addition, special historical analyses on the history of church youth work are conducted. Our postgraduate students regularly meet in the Institute at the "Youth and Church" research center.
