Prof. em. Dr. Dr. h.c. (Cluj-Napoca) Gunther Wenz held the Chair of Systematic Theology I and the position of Director of the Institute of Fundamental Theology and Ecumenics from 1995 to 2015. He is an Ordinary Member of the Philosophisch-historische Klasse of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Academie International des Sciences Religieuses, and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in addition to various ecumenical councils, and is an appointed member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church of Germany (EKD) and the General Synod of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany (VELKD). Prof. Wenz chairs the Board of Trustees of the Evangelische Akademie Tutzing, is editor of the journal of academic research and teaching of the church, "Kerygma und Dogma" and is a founder member of the Ecumenical Research Institute at LMU Munich. Prof. Wenz's specialist fields are dogmatics, ecumenical theology and modern history of theology and philosophy. He is currently working primarily on a ten-volume work on the study of systematic theology; volumes on the themes of Religion, Revelation, Church and God have already been published (Göttingen 2005/7).
